Life Insurance Q #05: Can Life Insurance Access Medical Records?

Your medical records and private documents can only be seen by life insurance companies if you’ve given your approval.
You’re shielded by two acts:
- In 1988: the Access to Medical Reports Act (AMRA);
- in 2018: the Data Protection Act (DPA).
This is why insurers’ contract mentions that they need your permission to view them.
Only a special few third parties can have access to your medical history without requiring your consent, such as social services, court, police, and the DVLA.
But this is extremely precisely governed.
